- To educate parents as to the critical importance of one-on-one interactions with children from birth through adolescence. The Dr. Greenspan "floortime" concept will form the basis of this effort. Early and continual individual involvement is far more important than previously thought.
- To address the emotional needs of children/adolescents with parents, educators, community leaders, religious groups, and mental health workers.
- To foster relationships between adults and children/adolescents to promote emotional and intellectual growth. For normal children, this relationship will be primarily with parents, but for developmentally delayed children, the parental relationship will be supplemented with mentors, clergy, social workers, resource room teachers and other professionals. By forming close relationships, these children learn to trust someone and ask for help when needed.
- To establish and maintain a library source open to the general public on children and mental health issues.
- To minimize use of medications for the very young child by providing psychological or family therapy to teach new coping strategies.
- To promote an environment/events that addresses the emotional needs of all children/adolescents
- To help children/adolescents be better able to discuss issues such as violence, substance abuse, sexuality, and racism. Offer instructive work in responsible decision making techniques.
- To help children deal with stress. To give importance to feelings and promote mental health.
- To do research to further our knowledge on what helps children/adolescents grow into secure adults.
